On Proverbs 22

v10 Drive out the scoffer, and contention will go out,
Even strife and dishonor will cease.

I've heard this verse quoted several times. It is amazing how we sometimes go overboard in trying to exhibit kindness and patience to someone who is bent on contention and strife. This proverb seems to say that it is wise to know when to be kind and accepting, and when to put a stop to strife and contention. I probably err on the side of a lack of patience, but it is good to know that even Solomon advises that there should be a limit.

  1. Prov 22:11: “He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend.” - In today’s society, with our environment of abusive posts & tweets on social media and of character assassination in the public square, we believers can be noticed for our pure hearts and gracious speech, even in the eyes and ears of unbelievers and enemies.
